How to Safely Mail Your Glasses for Reglazing

Sending your glasses through the post might feel nerve-wracking — after all, they're a valuable and delicate item. But with the right packaging and a little care, posting your frames for reglazing is straightforward and safe. Here's everything you need to know to send your glasses securely and get them back in perfect condition.

Step 1: Place Your Order First

Before you post anything, make sure you've placed your order on our website and chosen your new lenses. You'll receive confirmation with our postal address and any specific instructions. Browse our Single Vision Lens Options or Varifocal Lens Options to get started.

Step 2: Include Your Prescription

You'll need to include a copy of your current prescription with your frames. Your prescription should have been issued by a registered optician and is valid for two years. You can include a printed copy or a clear photograph of the prescription document. Make sure all values are legible, including sphere, cylinder, axis, and any reading addition (Add).

Step 3: Package Your Frames Carefully

This is the most important step. Follow these guidelines to protect your frames in transit:

  • Use a hard case if possible. Place your glasses in their case before packaging. A hard case provides the best protection against crushing.
  • Wrap in bubble wrap. If you don't have a hard case, wrap the frames in several layers of bubble wrap, paying particular attention to the temples (arms) and any delicate joints.
  • Use a rigid outer box. Place the wrapped glasses inside a small cardboard box. Avoid using just a padded envelope for valuable or delicate frames — a box provides much better crush protection.
  • Fill any empty space. Use scrunched paper, tissue, or additional bubble wrap to prevent the glasses from moving around inside the box.
  • Seal securely. Use strong packing tape to seal all edges of the box.

Step 4: Label Clearly

Write our address clearly on the outside of the package. Include your own return address in case of any delivery issues. If you're printing a label, make sure it's firmly attached and won't peel off in transit.

Step 5: Choose a Tracked Postal Service

We strongly recommend using a tracked postal service when sending your frames. This gives you peace of mind and proof of delivery. Royal Mail Tracked 48 or Tracked 24 are reliable and affordable options. For particularly valuable frames, consider adding insurance cover.

Keep your proof of postage and tracking number until your glasses have been safely returned to you.

What Happens After We Receive Your Frames?

Once your frames arrive at our lab you will receive notification they've arrived safely onsite, we will then get to work fitting your new lenses. You'll receive your reglazed glasses back by post, typically within 6-8 working days of receiving your frames. We return all glasses via a tracked service.

Tips for Fragile or Valuable Frames

  • If your frames are particularly fragile, old, or valuable, consider double-boxing — placing the inner box inside a slightly larger outer box with padding between them.
  • Rimless frames require extra care as the lenses are held by screws or drill mounts. Wrap these especially carefully.
  • If you're unsure whether your frames are suitable for reglazing, get in touch before posting.
